Designing the bottle and packaging for Scotch & Soda’s I am Amsterdam fragrance was a particularly inspiring task, deeply rooted in the cultural significance of Amsterdam. On my first visit to the city, at the invitation of Scotch & Soda, the journey began with a meeting at the office, followed by an impressive visit to an old church, used as the brand’s creative space. This church is a place of gathering and inspiration of inspiration from all over the world. It is the melting pot of the brand’s creativity, just as Amsterdam is a melting pot of many cultures.
The flacon was strongly inspired by the architecture of this church. The cross vault of the sacred space in which the brand’s creativity unfolds served as a formative element. The bottle echoes this organic yet structured form, reflecting the complexity and elegance of the fragrance. The rounded, harmonious lines of the bottle evoke the sense of openness and sharing felt in the church.
The bottle cap has been designed as a seal stamp with the embossed Scotch & Soda signet. This aspect symbolises the creative ’seal‘ of the brand and gives the bottle an added dimension of authenticity and individuality. We chose a minimalist yet expressive design for the packaging. It emphasises the urban sophistication and creative spirit of Amsterdam and Scotch & Soda. The high-quality workmanship and the deliberately chosen design reflect the innovative and cosmopolitan thinking of the brand.
