The Casa de Coca fragrance range combines the cultural history of Peru with a modern, sensual experience in a unique way. The idea for the range came from Beatrice Graf, who, with her Peruvian roots, wanted to translate the diversity and mysticism of her homeland into fragrance. The name Casa de Coca means ‚House of the Coca Leaf‘ and refers to the cultural and spiritual significance of the plant to the Incas, who revered it as sacred and life-giving.
The three fragrances represent different aspects of Inca life and their relationship with the coca plant. Chasqui evokes the Inca runners who chewed coca leaves to overcome their exhaustion on the way from the coast to their mountain dwellings. The fragrance is fresh and vibrant, with notes that capture the rain and humidity of the jungle. Paqos, inspired by the priestly rituals of divining the future from the flight of coca leaves, is a spicy, herbal fragrance. Finally, Noche de Coca is a smoky, intoxicating fragrance inspired by the golden glow of the nightly hearth fires reflected in the starry night sky in the Inca world of belief.
The design of the logo, bottle and packaging is a blend of tradition and modernity. The open ‚A‘ in the logo is inspired by the architecture of Machu Picchu, with its open joints and tapered walls to withstand earthquakes. The bottle cap is designed to resemble a coca leaf floating in free fall. The packaging is embossed with a material texture, further emphasising the deep connection to Peruvian culture.
